Hubert Syvelle Phillips, 83, of Rockwall, TX, loving husband and best friend of Lovie (Hayes) Phillips for 60 years, went to be with the Savior he loved so much on October 13th, 2012.
He was predeceased by his parents Jeff and Evie Phillips.
Syvelle was born in Munson, Florida, September 27th, 1929. He answered God’s call on his life for ministry as an Evangelist at the early age of 18. At 19, he conducted a month long revival in the largest Assemblies of God church in America at that time. He spoke at the National A/G General Council at the age of 36 which made him the youngest man to have that honor. He pastored churches in Niceville, Florida and Santa Ana, California. Syvelle Phillips also hosted the “Pastor Phillips” radio Bible-study program for 25 years. Additionally, in the early 1970s, Syvelle and his wife, Lovie, launched a childcare sponsorship program through Christian Communications Commission. The program provides basic necessities for children in 15 locations in India, Rwanda, Uganda, Nagaland, Nepal and Liberia while helping many families of national pastors.
He was a faithful minister of the gospel speaking to millions during the last 65 years. He founded Evangel Bible Translators 36 years ago in 1976 and worked tirelessly in the task of training many others to translate the Scriptures into little-known languages spoken in remotest regions around the world.
Besides his wife Lovie of Rockwall, TX; Syvelle is survived by his two sons Philip Syvelle Phillips and Darin Paul Phillips, their wives, his ten grandchildren and other relatives and many, many friends.
A memorial service will be held at Church in the City, 6005 Dalrock Rd. Rowlett, TX at 11:00 am on October 19, 2012. A visitation will be held at Rest Haven Funeral Home’s Chapel at 5:00 – 8:00 pm on October 18, 2012. The family will be greeting friends and relatives before and after the visitation at their home. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 2500 State Highway 66, Rockwall, TX 75087 after the Memorial Home Going Celebration on October 19, 2012. Memorial contributions may be made in Syvelle's name to Christian Communications Commission, PO Box 354, Rockwall, TX 75087.

As missionaries to Africa, sent out by the International Pentecostal Holiness, we were blessed many times by the ministry of Rev Phillips. He inspired us with his knowledge of the Word and his stories of successful ministry around the world.
We extend to the family, friends and ministry partners of Syvelle Phillips our deepest sympathy. We look forward to seeing Rev Phillips again in Heaven.

Dear Lovie and Family.
Our hearts are full of beautiful memories of Pastor Phillips. It was a privilege for us to be under his pastoral watch care. All of this began when we lived in Santa Ana and often attended First Assembly, including the Missions Conferences and the early morning prayer meetings. Our son Phillip was baptized there.
Alice and I were present at the opening of the first Evangel Bible Translators offices in Orange County. Pastor Phillips organized several pastors conferences where we received much benefit.
Lovie, you and Pastor Syvelle have lived inspiring lives. We are confident that our Lord will greatly sustain you and will further develop the ministry that both of you have been doing for Him.
Cordially in His name,

On behalf of Wycliffe Bible Translators, and the CEO group of the Forum of Bible Agencies, with whom Syvelle served so many years and so faithfully, I wanted to express Christian love and sympathy, and also express our certain hope that we will see him again! He will be missed down here so much!! Our love to the family and to all of his many friends.

As our minds have replayed the many instances that Pastor & Lovie have been involved in our lives since 1960, we realized once again how much joy they have given us. As a young airman newly assigned to Eglin AFB, I found this couple who were willing to pour their love into me. He recommended I attend Southeastern Bible College, later married Pat and me, then invited us to our first ministry positions at Santa Ana, and then on and on...In all, he left us a legacy of love that still continues through Lovie and Phil. We miss you already, Pastor Phillips, but look forward to a grand and glorious reunion. May the Holy Spirit prove His faithfulness in caring for you, Lovie, for Phil, Darin, for their families, and all the House of Phillips! - Jim
