Paul Wm Laning, Jr., age 67, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on February 7, 2010, surrounded by loving family. He was born November 30, 1942 in Liberty, NY to the late Paul and Ada Laning. Paul is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maggie L. Laning; sons Whitney P. and wife Bobbi, and Bradley C. and wife Kim; four grandchildren, Kyle, Emily, Brandon and Ryan; and his brother, Franklin H. Laning.
He graduated high school and proudly enlisted in the US Air Force. After his honorable discharge, Paul pursued a career in the civil service with the Department of Defense, National Security Agency, and retired after 34 years of dedicated service. He received numerous meritorious awards, honors and special recognition for his cryptologic, communications, managerial and logistical expertise. Paul graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS in psychology. After retiring to Florida, he worked for the Pall Aerospace Corporation. In 2005, Paul and his wife relocated to Fate, TX, where he worked as the Assistant Director of Security for IPC at Firewheel Town Center in Garland, TX.
Paul loved the Lord and endeared his family. He was blessed with a great sense of humor and contagious smile. Paul was a companionate gentle giant, who loved to give bear hugs and spoil his grandchildren. He faithfully served a lifetime of service to his Lord and community. Family and friends will remember him as being great, precious, wonderful, awe-inspiring, loving, angelic, incredible and beloved.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Legacy Brain Foundation, 1325 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suite 690, Ft. Worth, TX 76104. A memorial service celebrating Paul’s life will be held 10:00am, Saturday, February 27, 2010, in the Lake Pointe Church Chapel, 701 E. I-30, Rockwall, TX 75087.
