Thelma Margery (Pitts) King, age 90 of Mesquite, TX, passed away March 3, 2010. She was born May 2, 1919, in Alexander City, Alabama, to Eugene & Lura Granger Pitts. She was a member of Eastridge church of Christ in Rockwall, TX. Thelma lived seven and one half years at Christian Care Center in Mesquite, TX, where she daily visited and encouraged others in need.
She is survived by sons: Gene Childers and wife Jeri of Mesquite, TX, Wayne Childers of Greenville, TX, and Steve Childers of Visalia, CA; granddaughters: Laurie Thomas and Valerie Penny; great granddaughters: Caitlyn, Alyssa and Emily; brother: Paul Pitts & wife Ona of Spartanburg, SC; sister-in-law: Marie Pitts; and several nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends. Thelma was preceded in death by husbands: Clifford Childers and Grady H. King; brother: Chilton Pitts; and sister: Alma Smith.
Thelma enjoyed eight and one half years working with Mary Kay Cosmetics and had a successful business with Nature’s Sunshine herbal and vitamin line.
Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Monday, March 8, 2010, at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel with Minister James Hawk and Bob Carroll officiating. Entombment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the funeral home from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
The family would like to give a special thanks to very dear friends, Bob & Kay Carroll and Kay Arthur. Bob has been her trustee and brother in Christ for 28 years. Kay is a Christian Care Volunteer, sister in Christ and very close friend. A special thanks, too, to all the dedicated employees and residents at Christian Care Center who have daily made Thelma’s life so wonderful. Thanks to hospice and Presbyterian Hospital doctors, nurses and caregivers for their compassion and excellent care. Memorials in Thelma’s honor may be made to Christian Care Center, 1000 Wiggins Parkway, Mesquite, TX 75150.
